This last couple of weeks I’ve been at loads of events, my life has been a veritable social whirl…! (Jealous? No, didn't think so! In fact, my life has actually been that of someone who works for themselves and has a million things, events and jobs to cram into each week, for the love of what I do).
It feels so long since we first created an Enterprise Programme in Bowdon Church School in Manchester in 2012. Those children are moving into Yr 10 now, taking GCSE choices and we're still getting great feedback from both their parents and new schools.
A lot has happened since that first programme!
Business came back to school at St Teresas school in Stretford Manchester recently, where a group of 9 and 10 year old children shared their fabulous business ideas with a panel of local Business Angels.
Children Media Conference, for the rest of the world not in that whizz-bang influential and critical bit of your child’s development, is where lots of brilliant, funny and clever people come together to look at what the next thing your child plays with, reads, watches or endures might be.
Manchester social enterprise Stepping into Business has teamed up with Eddie Austin, Managing Director of Sugarman Education to run ‘Enterprise Essential’ workshops at Manchester Enterprise Academy to help 16-18 year old pupils find their inner entrepreneur.
Comedian Hugh Dennis found himself outnumbered by enterprising pupils at Westbridge Primary School in Battersea when he visited to hear their business pitches.
"As adults, we often try to all be the same, we measure ourselves against objectives which often don’t play to everyone’s strengths and then we wonder why people are struggling, not achieving or feeling stressed out. Kids are more ready to hand over responsibility to the one in their team who is really good at something, and to muck in and share a job when it’s clear more hands will make light work."
Recently, I made the trek from Manchester to Brighton to run a workshop as part of the Brighton Digital Festival, a celebration of digital culture that takes place every September.
